ARTHUR SUYDAM COVERS THE GRAVES

Acclaimed Marvel Zombie Cover Illustrator Paints The Graves Movie Poster

SCOTTSDALE, AZ. May 19, 2009 – Just in time for its bow at Cannes film market, Mischief Maker Studios and Ronalds Brothers Productions  proudly unveil The Graves  movie poster, painted by acclaimed Illustrator Arthur Suydam.

“Arthur is in a league onto himself,” says The Graves writer/director, Brian Pulido. “He is a master draftsman who first came onto the comics scene in the 1970’s. His work on Cholly and Flytrap blew my mind and his contributions to Tarzan, Conan, Death Dealer, and of course his infamous Marvel Zombie covers solidified his place as one of the top illustrators on the planet. We are humbled by his contribution to The Graves.”

THE GRAVES Teaser Poster #8 of 8: REVEREND STOCKTON (TONY TODD)

The eighth teaser poster to debut featuring the main characters from the film.

Unity, Arizona is one of the toughest places to live in the world. The victim of numerous droughts, fires, floods, and sicknesses, it is understandable that the townspeople cling to their church, and the trusted words of their charismatic leader, Reverend Abraham Stockton. But Unity’s hardships have taken their toll on Stockton’s psyche. Some say he is a prophet. Some say he is insane. Others say he speaks directly to higher powers. Turns out, that all may be right.

Tony Todd, one of the horror genre’s greatest stars, gives a stirring performance as man, twisted by extreme hardships who is willing to sacrifice everything  to hold onto his power – and his sanity.

REACTIONS TO THE GRAVES PHOENIX SNEAK PEEK

THE GRAVES TEASER POSTER #7 (OF 8) DEACON LUKE (D. RANDALL BLYTHE)

The seventh of eight teaser posters to debut featuring the main characters from the film.

The Stockton family formed the Church of Devout Ascension under severe drought and hardship in the late 1800’s and it continues to this day, rejuvenated by the prosperity caused by the “Miracle at Skull City”. But not everyone in the flock is willing to make the sacrifice’s Reverend Stockton demands. That’s where Deacon Luke comes in: comply and all is well. Resist and die a horrible death.

 D. Randall Blythe (screamer, Lamb of God) is pure, unbridled rage as Reverend Stockton’s “enforcer”.

The Graves stars Clare Grant (Masters of Horror), Jillian Murray (The Fun Park), Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects, Texas Chainsaw Massacre II), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm St., Dexter), D. Randall Blythe (Screamer, Lamb of God), Shane Stevens, Patti Tindall (Death of a Ghost Hunter), Barbara Glover (Red Rock West), Calabrese and Tony Todd (24, Candyman).

The Graves is written and directed by independent comic book legend Brian Pulido (Chaos! Comics, Lady Death, Evil Ernie) and produced by Mischief Maker Studios, Brian Ronalds and Dean Ronalds of Ronalds Brothers Productions (Netherbeast, Inc.). Production Design by Francisca Pulido. Director of Photography Adam Goldfine.

THE GRAVES TEASER POSTER #6 OF 8 CALEB (BILL MOSELEY)

The sixth of eight teaser posters to debut featuring the main characters from the flick.

Every town needs a handyman and Caleb (“Cookie” to his friends) is Unity’s finest. There’s nothing he can’t fix with his trusted tool box. But Caleb leads a secret life as the serial killer “Pig Man” that even the Unity townspeople don’t know about. Is Megan or Abby Graves the mate he’s been searching for or are they just the latest “runts”?

Bill Moseley, the Marlon Brando of the horror genre, is absolutely mind-melting as a cold-hearted, blue-eyed killer who takes sheer pleasure in his job.

TEASER POSTER #5 HELEN “MAMA” HEINBECKER (Barbara Glover)

When you head into Skull City Mine’s ticket shack, you can’t miss the ever-friendly Helen Heinbacker or “Mama” as the folks around Unity call her. It’s a peculiar moniker for a woman who has no family and professes to hate children. Don’t let her rotted smile fool you she’s a killer.

Barbara Glower brings danger - and a bit of levity to Skull City’s knitting-needle wielding “greeter”.

The Graves stars Clare Grant (Masters of Horror), Jillian Murray (The Fun Park), Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects, Texas Chainsaw Massacre II), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm St., Dexter), D. GARY SHAW

Even though our film was on a tight budget, we needed key personal who knew their craft and that’s where Key Grip Gary Shaw came in. Gary lives on the edge of the AZ / Mexico border and clearly looks like a madman, but let me tell you: he got The Graves made. I respect and admire Gary in a big way. I’m not a spiritual guy, but when I met Gary, it was spiritual. I knew I met a kindred spirit and I knew our movie was gonna be all right. I also know we owe him a lot for his contribution to our movie.

Thank you, Gary!

Darlene has lured countless tourists to Skull City. What is the mine’s secret and why is Darlene desperate to lure countless tourists to Skull City – and to their doom?

TEASER POSTER #1 (OF 8) - MEGAN & ABBY GRAVES (CLARE GRANT & JILLIAN MURRAY)

Megan and Abby Graves are inseparable sisters.  Megan is a self-assured ass kicker. Abby is a caustic, Hot Topic Goth afraid of her own shadow. They couldn’t be less alike, but they share a life-long obsession with comics, pop culture and rock ‘n’ roll.  Simply put, they are beautiful geeks.

In a few days, Megan will start a new job in New York. To send her off in style, the sisters go on a trip to uncharted Arizona in search of kitchy roadside attractions.

Instead, they’re lured to Skull City Mine, an abandoned mine town. But Skull City is anything but abandoned -- and there’s no way out.

The sisters are now prey, forced to unleash their most primitive instincts in a desperate fight for survival against unspeakable horrors -- both human and supernatural:

Caleb aka “Pig Man” (Bill Moseley) the twisted, wife-seeking serial killer, Reverend Abraham Stockton (Tony Todd), the insane leader of The Church of Devout Ascension, Deacon Luke (D. Randall Blythe), the church’s enforcer who is quite possibly a cannibal, Darlene Atwood (Amanda Wyss), the seemingly friendly waitress at Screamer’s diner who delivers tourists to their doom, Jonah Lee Atwood (Shane Stevens) - the ruthlessly efficient, reluctant killer and “Mama” Heinbecker (Barbara Glover) – the cold-hearted ticket taker who’s “handy” with knitting needles.

When Megan suffers a mortal wound, Abby must save her sister, but to do so, she must confront her fears and unlock the mystery of Skull City alone.

Can Abby survive Skull City’s threats? Can she rescue Megan or are the Graves doomed to a fate much worse than death?

PS - Let me explain the photos. I'm the dude with the 80's hair and leather jacket. At the top is Nick G. and myself (Nick is our Digital Assets Manager). That handsome young man kissing me (hey, its the arts!) -- That's Brian Ronalds, part of the producing duo, Ronalds Brothers Productions (I'm pretty sure Brian's brother Dean was at the bar around this time). RBP produced The Graves along with my production company, Mischief Maker Studios.

Below that shot, I am posing with my lovely wife and producing partner, Francisca. We've been an item for close to 18 years, and it only gets better. It is terrific to share this dream come true with Francisca and everyone from the cast & crew. It make it all worthwhile.
